About 247 Expat
Moving to Spain made clearer. That's the promise, and it's the test we hold every page to.
247 Expat is the English-language guide to moving to and living in Spain: practical guides to visas, healthcare, property, money, driving and everyday life, written for the people actually making the move — from the UK, the US, Ireland, Canada, Australia and beyond.
Why this site exists
Moving to Spain is one decision that quickly turns into dozens: which visa, how much money, what happens to your healthcare, whether to rent or buy, what to do with the car, where your pension goes. The information for each of those decisions exists somewhere — scattered across government portals in two languages, law-firm websites, forums and decade-old blog posts that were never updated.
What didn't exist was a guide built around the journey itself: one place that takes you from "should we do this?" to your first month in Spain, in the right order, with each step connected to the next. That's what 247 Expat is built to be.
So our guides do three things, deliberately: they explain how things work in plain English, they compare your options honestly, and they route you to the right specialist when reading stops being enough.
How we're connected — and why we say so
247 Expat is part of a group of companies that help English speakers move to and live in Spain: visa specialists, a Spanish health insurance service, an insurance brokerage, and legal and conveyancing teams. When our guides recommend one of them, we mark it clearly — every time, right next to the recommendation.
We think that connection is a strength, not a secret. It means the specialist businesses connected to 247 Expat work with consulates, insurers and notaries every day, and it means that when an article says "your next step is X", there's a team on the other side that does exactly X. But you should never have to guess when a recommendation is connected to us: where we link to a service provided by one of our group brands, we identify that relationship alongside the recommendation.
How we work editorially
Every guide on 247 Expat follows the same published standard:
- Specialist review where it counts. Where a guide turns on an immigration, property or insurance question, it is checked by the group's specialists in that field before it publishes, and it carries the date it was last checked.
- Primary sources only. We cite governments and official bodies — gov.uk, Spain's ministries, the tax agency, the DGT — not other blogs.
- Honest numbers. Where rules and thresholds move, we give ranges, date-stamp our figures and keep all content on a scheduled review cycle, with higher-risk topics reviewed more frequently.
- Straight answers. If something is a bad idea, costs more than people expect, or isn't necessary for your situation, the guide says so. That includes the occasional "Spain might not be your best option".
Who 247 Expat is for
Anyone thinking seriously about Spain: retirees planning the move of their lives, remote workers weighing the digital nomad route, families comparing schools, second-home owners deciding whether to make it permanent — and the many people at the very beginning, still asking "could we actually do this?"
Start where most of our readers start: the complete guide to moving to Spain.
